The STC Ratings of Tseason Acoustic Sandwich Panels
Leveraging professional-grade acoustic spectrum analyzers, Tseason meticulously studies Acoustic sandwich panels, conducts precise acoustic measurements, and thoroughly examines the human auditory system to develop its sound insulation sandwich panels. When used solely for the walls of large- and medium-sized factories, these panels can achieve an indoor noise reduction of approximately 1/3 and a 100% increase in sound insulation. Additionally, they exhibit excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, making them the preferred choice for noise reduction in industrial buildings, safeguarding occupational health and safety.
The sound insulation effect of Acoustic sandwich panels mainly depends on the following factors:
Thickness and Density
The thicker and denser the rock wool core, the higher the STC rating. A thicker panel allows for more sound absorption within the rock wool fibers, while a denser core provides better sound wave blockage.
Steel or Panel Material
The thickness of the steel or cladding material on the outside of the sandwich panel also plays a role. Thicker steel provides a more substantial barrier against sound waves.
Perforated steel plates for better sound insulation properties
The sound insulation principle of the Acoustic sandwich panels has two main principles:
Sound absorption: the fiber structure of rock wool has many delicate pores, which can absorb the energy in the sound waves, thus reducing sound spread.
Barrier: The steel plate or panel material can block sound transmission.
STC (Sound Transmission Class) is an essential indicator of the sound insulation performance of the material. The higher the STC value, the better the sound insulation performance. Materials with an STC value of 30dB or more can effectively block most of the noise in daily life.
Test Method of STC Rating The STC rating is tested by installing the test material in an acoustic chamber and then generating noise on both sides. The STC value is calculated by measuring the difference in noise between the two sides of the chamber.

Thickness & Density | Rockwool Core | STC Rating | Applications |
50mm to 75mm | 80-100kg/m³ | 40-45 dB | Moderate noise reduction in offices, classrooms, or residential applications |
100mm | 100-120kg/m³ | 50-55 dB | Significant noise reduction in recording studios, hospitals, or mechanical rooms |
Over 100mm | High-density | 60 dB or higher | Very strict noise control needs like soundproof rooms or anechoic chambers |
Below are some typical applications for Acoustic sandwich panels and their corresponding STC rating requirements:
Application | STC Rating Requirement |
Soundproofing of office buildings | 35-40 dB |
Soundproofing of classrooms | 40-45 dB |
Soundproofing of hospitals | 45-50 dB |
Soundproofing of recording studios | 50-55 dB |
Machinery room sound insulation | 55-60 dB |
